What is AFROPUNK?
AFROPUNK is an influential community of young, gifted people of all backgrounds who speak through music, art, film, comedy, fashion and more. Originating with the 2003 documentary that highlighted a Black presence in the American punk scene, it is a platform for the alternative and experimental. Remaining at the core of its mission are the punk principles of DIY aesthetics, radical thought, and social nonconformity. AFROPUNK is a voice for the unwritten, unwelcome and unheard-of, redefining the urban experience.

Are there rules to attend AFROPUNK?
AFROPUNK abides by the tenets: NO SEXISM, NO RACISM, NO ABLEISM, NO AGEISM, NO HOMOPHOBIA, NO FATPHOBIA, NO TRANSPHOBIA, NO HATEFULNESS. We strive to create a safe space for all behind, on, and in front of the stage. Read more here.

Where can I enter the festival?
General admission may enter through either Park Ave and Navy St. or Flushing Ave and Navy St.

ADA patrons may enter at the VIP entrance of Flushing & Elliot or at either of the main entrances.

VIP Patrons may enter on Elliot, between Flushing & Park, near the pool entrance.

 

Is the festival rain or shine?
The festival is a rain or shine event.

What time does the festival end?
Curfew is 10:30 pm.

Is there re-entry to the festival?
There is no re-entry to the festival per day.

Do I get a wristband upon entering the venue?
General Admission Weekend ticket holders and VIP ticket holders will receive a wristband upon entering the festival.

Can I upgrade to VIP?
Yes as long as tickets for VIP are still available. Tickets can be purchased at here. Please reach out to tickets@afropunk.com.

Where are the ATMs located?
ATMs are located at each stage. Please Refer to the Patron map on the AFROPUNK app iOS / AFROPUNK app Android.

Where are the restrooms?
Restrooms are located in Red, Green and Pink stage areas. Please Refer to the Patron map on the AFROPUNK app iOS / AFROPUNK app Android for the exact location of each stage.

Where is the best place to grab a bite?
The AFROPUNK Bites&Beats food truck rally is primarily located on Concord St and the Pink Stage featuring New York City’s best food trucks!

Where can I eat at the festival (Even if I have a special diet?)
Bites&Beats at AFROPUNK Brooklyn has something delicious for everyone. Omnivores, vegetarians, vegans, pescetarians, heck even if you’re in the middle of a juice cleanse – we got you covered! The Food Truck Row on Concord has something for everyone from some of NYC’s best food trucks. Vegans – your best spots to dine will be at Try Vegan on Food Truck Row or Monk’s Vegan Smokehouse in the Green Stage beer garden (the one on the baseball diamond). Pescetarians – check out Lolo’s Seafood in Gold Stage. And you KNOW if you’re craving Carribean and Jamaican fare, we’ve got two of the best – Jamrock Jerk (Green Stage beer garden) and Excell Kingston (Gold Stage). Or throw caution to the wind and satisfy your sweet tooth at Doughnuttery at Red Stage.

Will there be vegetarian items?
Yes! You can find vegetarian food in every food vendor area at AFROPUNK.

Are there water stations?
Festival water can be purchased at bars and non-alcoholic beverage stations located at each stage. Free bottle fill stations, provided by NYC Water, will be accessible to the patrons at the intersection of Navy St./Concord St. The hours of operation are 12pm-8pm. There is an ADA accessible station provided by NYC Water at this location.

Where is the Merch booth?
AFROPUNK merch and artist merchandise will be sold at the merch booth in The SpinThrift Market on Green Stage.

Who do I contact about volunteering at the festival?

Can you tell me more about the Earn-A-Ticket Program?
Our 2019 Earn-A-Ticket Program is now closed for 2019, but you can still visit some of the amazing organizations we’ve worked with this year at Activism Row. Please Refer to the Patron map on the AFROPUNK app iOS / AFROPUNK app Android. to connect and raise your voice.

Where is the Medical Tent?
There are two Medical tents located just north of Green Stage and on Navy Street at the intersection of Concord.

Where can I charge my phone?
Portable chargers will be available for purchase through Electric Standard Co. in the SpinThrift Market at Green Stage. Attendees can charge on the go, no matter what type of device they have. Cables come built in, and are easily rechargeable at home. You can also pre-order these chargers with your ticket and pick it up when you get to site

Where is Lost and Found?

Lost items from the festival can be claimed at the 88th Precinct. The address is 298 Classon Avenue. Any patrons wishing to collect their item should ask for Officer Villagas.

Where can I park?

The pick-up/drop-off area is located at Nassau St./Gold St.

ADA INFORMATION
Is the Festival accessible to people with disabilities?
Yes. ADA entrance is located at the VIP Entrance at Flushing and Elliot. ADA Patrons may also enter through the Main Entrance on Park Ave and Navy St. There are designated viewing areas within the festival.. Please let us know if you need assistance. You can contact our Guest Services Manager, Yemi Osibogun at guestservices@afropunk.com.

Where do I get my accessible pass?
Accessible Passes for ADA guests may be requested at the Box Office or at the Guest Services Booth inside the venue. This pass can be carried with you around the park for access to ADA viewing areas and other accessible needs.

Am I allowed to have service animals?
Service animals are allowed, however, dogs must be on a leash at all times and shots up to date. Please remember that DB levels are high near the stages and to be aware.

Where are accessible porta-potties?
Accessible porta potties can be found throughout the grounds at Red and Green stage areas. Refer to the map for where the ADA Bathrooms are. The Patron map can be found on the AFROPUNK app iOS / AFROPUNK app Android. If you can find a bathroom, there is an ADA bathroom nearby!

Where are accessible areas?
Please visit the box office or info booth on arrival for ADA information. You can also email guestservices@afropunk.com for more information. There are accessible viewing areas inside the event. Please understand that there is still standing room in the front of this area, so it may be difficult to see. However, our staff is available to help to the best of their ability in offering you an accessible viewing spot.

What you can bring in:
One recyclable (non-glass) container for water (not two, or three or four or any number above one)
Small bags, *Framed backpacks used for carrying children are fine but backpacks are discouraged
Small purses and clear bags

What you may NOT bring in:
Weapons (guns, knives, or any weapons of any kind)
Fireworks or explosives
Illegal substances
Glass containers or cans
Framed or Large backpacks, book bags or non-transparent bags over hand size (any bag that is not clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and over 12”x6”x12” in size will not be allowed)
Food or drinks of any kind – other than reusable water bottles
Coolers or picnic baskets
Lensed cameras, long lense cameras or professional photography equipment
Any type of travel-friendly chairs or other lawn furniture
Bicycles, scooters* or other personal motorized vehicles (including, but not limited to, motor scooters, powered skateboards, and hoverboards.) *Motorized wheelchairs and personal mobility scooters are welcome, of course.
Radios, boomboxes, instruments or devices with amplified sound.
Large multi-person umbrellas (personal umbrellas for rain protection are fine.)
Laser pointers
Tents
Pets of any kind (except for working service dogs.)
Items for vending. Unauthorized vendors will not be allowed. All authorized vendors have been carefully chosen for safety and quality
