AFROPUNK announces a new partnership with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. This February, the two groundbreaking entities host AFROPUNK + Lincoln Center Black HERSTORY Live, a two day takeover at Lincoln Center’s state-of-the-art David Geffen Hall and Alice Tully Hall that celebrates the black woman’s journey to find her voice through music and performance.

This two day performance is an immersive multidisciplinary experience that includes music, visual art, poetry, dance, performance art, and much more, surrounding the themes of agony and ecstasy.

Day 1 centers around the theme of agony—the Black woman’s journey to find her voice through self-expression. Through music, poetry, and performance, we unpack HERstory with story narration, as well as video and performances from Sarah Jones, UMI, Celisse, Danielle Ponder, aja monet, Nona Hendryx, Mahogany L. Browne, and Ebony Williams.

Day 2 continues the story as we move into the second half of the journey—ecstasy. This day leans into the strength of the Black woman’s voice. Similar to Friday, this story will be explored through video and performances from India Arie, Sarah Jones, Mereba, Celisse, Danielle Ponder, aja monet, Mahogany L. Browne, and Ebony Williams.

BLACK HERSTORY OPEN FAIR – FREE
AFROPUNK & Lincoln Center Present a Free Community Event taking place Friday, February 24th & Saturday, February 25th from 2:00pm – 5:30pm prior to the BLACK HERSTORY LIVE performances each day.
BLACK HERSTORY OPEN FAIR will feature curated Spinthrift Market Vendors selling clothing, jewelry, accessories, & more, a Wellness Experience featuring sound baths and astrology readings by Summer Dion, and will also include a Sip & Read featuring books from all Black Women authors.
There will also be live performances including a Poetry Slam Hosted By Anyrah Shaveh & Njambi Morgan, Jam Session live music by The Soapbox Presents, Dance Performances by Ladies of Hip Hop & Juilliard Student Dancers, an all Women DJ Takeover featuring Vonnie Mack, Kola Champagne, and Nikki Anticss, and an special AfroFuturism Experience by Nona Hendryx on Saturday.
Sephora will also have a booth activation feature Black founders/entrepreneurs, content creators, and artists, and discussions centered around entrepreneurship, turning your passion into your purpose, and Black business. In addition, the activation will be open for people to “step in” to learn more about the speakers.
