Battle of the 1Bands

10th letter

10th Letter a.k.a. Jeremi Johnson has arisen as one of the leading lights in the burgeoning underground psychedelic arts+culture scene in Atlanta. In the past eight years, Johnson has released 16 full albums of immersive material that pulls hip-hop and soul influences through digital and ancient psychotropic filters to create an aesthetic that seeks to render genre categories irrelevant. Drawing inspiration from surrealism, 10th Letter combines live instrumentation, electronic drums, samples, and found sounds to create heavily textured sonic landscapes and transcendent audio-visual performances. Johnson’s afrofuturistic compositions speak to observations about society and nature, and his deep interest in mysticism and the human experience. In his live performances, 10th Letter brings a bass-heavy, beat-driven, psychedelic experience that is not easily forgotten.

Johnson’s digital visual orientation figures deeply into both his hallucinatory live audio-visual show and his surrealistic cover art. In 2017, he participated in the event SINGULARITY, Atlanta's first live virtual reality concert, and this spring, Johnson launched HyperEye, a curated monthly screening and performance series featuring innovative work by local Atlanta filmmakers, animators and musicians. 10th Letter was voted Best Local Electronic Act in 2016 by the Atlanta newspaper, Creative Loafing. He has shared the stage with the likes of RJD2, Big Freedia, The Gaslamp Killer, Prefuse 73, Richard Devine, Busdriver + Zeroh, Oddisee, Deantoni Parks, Mono/Poly, The Difference Machine, Suzi Analogue, Eskmo, Mndsgn, Tsuruda, Thriftworks, and many others.
