Hair & Beauty Village

Hair & Beauty Village

There is no word in the English language that combines the idea of crown, heart, spirit, creativity and armor, so we are left with “hair.” This small, four-letter word is an innocuous camouflage for inside jokes, memories, intimacies, life stages, pain, doubt, confidence, shame, pride, innocence, maturity and authenticity.

Hair plays such a central role in the identity, self-concept, sense of beauty and political consciousness of Black people, that it is hard to overstate its importance.

The Hair & Beauty Village space explores all of these facets of Black hair through the eyes of creators, innovators, visionaries and artists to manifest conversation, creativity and community.
