afropunk and shopify partner to support black business success with the black fashion accelerator

October 6, 2021

AFROPUNK is partnering with Shopify, the leading commerce platform powering 1.7+ million businesses, to bring you the Black Fashion Accelerator—a catalyst for Black creative potential and expression. The Black Fashion Accelerator seeks to find, develop, and platform exceptional Black founders in the fashion industry, investing in their success at every step of the entrepreneurial journey throughout the program. Through the application process, the AFROPUNK and Shopify Black Fashion Accelerator will source nine trailblazing fashion entrepreneurs from the AFROPUNK community to take advantage of this meaningful growth and mentorship opportunity. Over a six month period,  starting January 2022, AFROPUNK and Shopify will tell their entrepreneurial stories; provide tangible, actionable business learnings, tools, and resources; and offer a sustainable business roadmap to supercharge their success. AFROPUNK and Shopify aim to make success more accessible for everyone and stimulate the Black economy to build a more resilient future, and the Black Fashion Accelerator will be the latest demonstration that creativity and commerce are self-reinforcing. The program will conclude with a fashion show on Juneteenth in New York City, where each participant will present a collection of their work. Upon completion of the program, each participant will receive a $5,000 grant.

To showcase participant progress, AFROPUNK and Shopify will chronicle the program through social media platforms, with a three-episode video series that captures the behind the scenes journey of each entrepreneur.

Applications open today and will close on November 14, 2021. To apply, visit https://bit.ly/3uLmcCc. Please note that participants must be 18 years of age or older, must be based in the United States, must be an incorporated fashion business for at least three months, and majority (50%+) owned by a Black founder to apply.
