pyer moss reminds us to fly
Kerby Jean-Raymond is everything right with the fashion industry.
The Pyer Moss show last night was a beautiful celebration of us. It was an homage to the freedom that we as a community have always had within but were forced to forget by fearful others. The show set the tone for our future as a people, one where we sing gospel and hip hop at the top of our lungs, dress better than anyone you’ve ever met, and fly.
Collections and shows like Pyer Moss’s make it hard to ignore how criminal it is that Blackness and our contribution (often creation) to fashion is barely represented in the industry. Jean-Raymond’s curation made it undeniably obvious that shutting us out is no good. We create moments of absolute joy that push culture forward and heal us from the inside out. Thank you to the Pyer Moss team for making us recognize our freedom. I feel like flying.
