premiere: nubiyan twist reworks super cat’s classic “dance inna new york” for soulful single “dance inna london”
Acclaimed afrobeat/jazz/soul/reggae pioneers Nubiyan Twist premiere “Dance Inna London,” a 21st century reworking of Super Cat’s classic 1982 dancehall track “Dance Inna New York.” Acquiring the original masters straight from Jah Thomas’ studio in Jamaica, Nubiyan Twist uses the classic cut as the jumping off point for a new version showcasing their rich full band sound, supplementing the original vocal with fresh lyrics from lead singer Nubiya Brandon for a new, moody, percussive jazz voyage. “I have always been a huge fan of Super Cat, so it’s been amazing reworking some of his lyrics. This song was really about keeping music venues alive. It’s care free and easy, simply a collaboration of jazz soul and reggae,” says Nubiya.
