chronicle the intimate life of black men in brazilian photo series “the bright project”

September 14, 2017

Luiz Henrique Ferreira is a 20-year-old Afro-Brazilian photographer whose work celebrates the politics and aesthetic of Black culture. His latest photo series, “The BRIGHT Project,” highlights the lives of Black men, reimagining the creation myths around intimate portraits of model Michael Bright.

A synopsis of the project reads:

The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind. At midday you will grope about like a blind person in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue you.

Oxalá takes the clay and with it he models the man and a woman, but has no life, so he calls Olorum to expose the question, to the one who approaches and blows the blow of life animating the men and women modeled by him.
