Algiers’ Latest “73%” Is An Explosive Post-Punk Ode to NYC

February 8, 2023

Even Algiers’ love letters sound like a bomb 2 seconds from detonation. Kinetic, visceral, and jagged, the band’s latest single from their forthcoming Shook pushes their inimitable sound fully into post-punk. It’s a driving, claustrophobic burst of lyricism and energy. Frontman Franklin James Fischer builds from abstract poetry, musing on the early days of the pandemic, to a prophetic wail as the band swarms around him in circles of noise. The vocalist calls the song “an impressionistic love letter to the energy and movement of New York City that I missed so much when I was exiled in ATL during quarantine.” Shook drops February 24th.
