AFROPUNK Video Of The Week: Mwanjé Delivers visuals for “Call 2 The Diaspora”

March 25, 2022

After her successful debut with ‘Wildones’ feat. Sampa The Great, rising star Mwanjé returns with ‘Call 2 The Diaspora’, a track focused on her journey of enlightenment and self-actualisation. The Botswana-born, Zambia-based contemporary artiste’s storytelling has brought along a refreshing new perspective connecting peace and personal growth. The meditative track, swathed in layers of soothing vocals and nocturnal jazz instrumentation, goes inward taking listeners on a journey of Mwanjé’s self-discovery and releasing inhibitions, leaving behind the old way of thinking and moving towards understanding. “This is not poetry, this is a testimony” she sings. Filmed in Lusaka, Zambia, the cinematic visuals – conceptualised by Mwanjé, and directed by Tio Nason and Geo Musiwa – is steeped in African symbolism. It is a soulful and euphoric love letter from the artist to her ancestors.

‘Call 2 The Diaspora’ serves as a prelude to Mwanjé’s forthcoming debut EP “Seasons”, a rich collection of music expressing a journey of self-discovery and the transition into adulthood. The EP will also feature her recent breakthrough single ‘Wildones’ feat. Sampa The Great (watch).
