magnolia park fight nostalgia on “2009”

December 17, 2021

Giving pop punk a serious shot in the arm, Orlando’s Magnolia Park’s newest longs for a wasted youth. The track finds vocalist Joshua Roberts wrestling with being stuck in a rut, longing for the bad old days when things were still fucked but in a simpler way. The band’s performance is their most dynamic to date, shifting gears from verse to bridge to the massive hook. Roberts and company stare hard into the abyss and come away feeling like if the end is inevitable, you might as well live it up while you can. It’s that a;most joyful nihilism that fuels so many of Magnolia Park’s best tracks.
