exclusive premiere: the intoxicating liberation of zulu’s “straight from da tribe of tha moon”

August 3, 2021
52 Picks

Now this is what we need more of in this world! Hard as nails production, vocals that will strip the paint off a tank, and a video that reminds us that heavy music is supposed to be fun goddamnit. The latest from LA powerviolence band Zulu is a minute and change of blissful intensity. “Straight from Da Tribe of Tha Moon” plays like an ode to the heydey of 90’s LA music videos, all vibrant colors and chrome. For a scene all-too-often obsessed with posturing, there’s something intoxicatingly liberating about the vibe. As singer Anaiah Lei says “I really just wanted to make a cool video with low riders and a gang of homies posted up. On some LA-type business, truthfully taking it back to old school.”

“Straight From Da Tribe Of Tha Moon” hails from Zulu’s My People…Hold On / Our Day Will Come which is available in clear and yellow transparent vinyl via Flatspot Records. Get more from Zulu on Instagram @blackpowerviolence and catch them on the road this fall.
