We asked our talented creative AFROPUNK community to submit their work to our platform during these turbulent times. (EMAIL US: contribute@afropunkworldwide.com)

We’ve received an influx of amazing visual art, writing, spoken word, music, fashion and more so far! We look forward to sharing them with you throughout this COVID_19 quarantine period on afropunk.com and our social platforms.

Meet artist Shaïny Vilo.

Where are you based?
I am a French artist based in England.

Tell us a bit about you as an artist.
I am currently focusing on photography to document and explore identities surrounding me.

Tell us about this project.
My project titled AFRO+PUNK is an autobiographical editorial photography and videography project depicting a journey through the exploration of Black identities in the alternative community and the struggles and complexities faced whilst in the middle. Inspired by Grace Wales Bonner, Adam Pendleton and Basquiat, this project provocatively addresses identity, race and sexuality through symbolism and a small essay piece in hope for other Black alternative people to look back at and relate to it.
