body count pulls no punches on “point the finger”

May 19, 2020

Ice-T is not fucking around. The legendary performer had just dropped his long-running hardcore band’s Carnivore album and was slated to embark on a world tour before the pandemic hit. Though those plans have changed, he and the rest of Body Count are still finding ways to get the word out. The video for “Point The Finger” finds the band going full DIY, filming everything from home. The track’s indictment of police violence is enhanced by its minimalism; there are no frills, no bullshit, just pure undiluted classic hardcore. Opening with a somber message from the man himself, the track finds Body Count sounding the tightest they have in years. Ice-T is always at his best when railing against the racism, violence, and hypocrisy of the system, and “Point The Finger” feels ever more timely in light of the deaths of Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. This is the real shit.
