darkovibes & king promise pledge love on “inna song”

March 6, 2020

March 6th is Ghana’s Independence Day, so it’s only fitting that AFROPUNK is premiering the new single and lyric video from rising Ghanaian afrobeats star Darkovibes. A member of Ghana’s La Même Gang  — the Accra-based creative collective of designers, filmmakers, musicians, and visual artists — Darkovibes and company are pushing Ghanian youth culture forward on the world stage, proving that West Africa’s styles and sounds aren’t limited to Nigeria.

On “Inna Song (Gin & Lime),” Darko and guest artist King Promise serenade a beautiful woman in pidgin and English. In the lyric video, their animated avatars engage in a “The Girl Is Mine” meets Spy Vs. Spy contest for her affection that Darkovibes ultimately wins (at cartoon gunpoint — it is his track after all). The song is sweet, effervescent, and, of course, danceable — perfect for warm weather parties.

The song is an appetizing sample of what’s to come from Darkovibes whose debut album, Kpanlogo, is due out in April, and set to feature Naija superstar, Wizkid, Banku music ambassador Mr. Eazi, and Kwesi Arthur. It’s cross-cultural pan-African connection. Kwame Nkrumah would be proud
