nnedi okorafor’s ‘binti’ gets adapted series on hulu
Award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor’s critically acclaimed sci-fi/fantasy trilogy Binti is being adapted for the small screen. The three-part Africanfuturistic novella will be adapted into a TV series by studio Media Res and is set to premiere on Hulu. Best of all, Okorafor will be integral to the show’s production as the script’s co-writer along with Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchmen, PEN15).
Binti is set in a technologically and socially advanced future. It tells the story of a brilliant and rebellious young woman who is destined to lead her community in Africa. But when she’s admitted to the most prestigious academy in the galaxy, she chooses a different path and, rejecting her family’s wishes, leaves her community behind in favor of the starry skies.
Binti has been the recipient of numerous awards including both a Hugo and Nebula award for Best Novella. Okorafor is currently in development with HBO on a series adaptation of her novel Who Fears Death, to be executive-produced by Game of Thrones papa George R. R. Martin.
Okorafor announced her excitement about the news going public and her plans to expand on the Binti world.
Finally, I can be public about it!
