moses boyd and poppy ajudha illuminate the self on “shades of you”
A key figure in London’s vibrant jazz scene, drummer, composer, and producer Moses Boyd has made a name for himself by taking his skillset to the furthest reaches of the genre and beyond. He’s toured with Sampha, collaborated with Sons of Kemet, and we got a live sample of his eclectism as he joined South Africa’s DJ Lag for a rousing set at AFROPUNK Atlanta. Tonight (Jan. 9) New York City gets to witness Boyd in action as he performs at the Winter Jazzfest at Le Poisson Rouge for a night of music hosted by Gilles Peterson.
To tease the performance and his upcoming album, Dark Matter, Boyd has released the bouncy new single, “Shades of You” featuring South London singer Poppy Ajudha who is also performing at tonight’s Winter Jazzfest event. The track combines Boyd’s movement-inducing persuasion with Poppy Ajudha’s ethereal vocals, bright synths and lyrics about self-acceptance this make this a track that lends itself to putting on repeat.
If you’re in NYC, check out Moses Boyd at Winter Jazzfest tonight. If you happen to live in Europe, you can catch him at one of the tour dates below:
