2019: remembering the 2010’s for the internet jokes
There’s Twitter, and then there’s Black Twitter… which is a goldmine of top-tier jokes by some of the funniest creatives around. The people behind these moments don’t need big budgets, but instead use what they have to create the funniest content around and, ultimately, the new comedic language for a generation.
It is these culture breakers who dictate pop culture. Phrases created by the Black youth of the internet have become part of our everyday language and ingrained into the whole world. Often without credit, marketing and commercials use the work of these young trendsetters to make their brands more relatable and with the times. Take Kayla Lewis’ “on fleek” as an example! Although she was never paid for her work, brands know its worth and use it constantly.
