yatta battles demons in the ‘i will definitely feel good’ video

November 22, 2019

Back in July, we introduced you to YATTA, the musician and poet whose sophomore album, WAHALA is one of the most compelling sonic meditations on mental illness and identity we’ve heard his year.

Through the use of their voice, synths, loop pedals, they create a soundscape that soundtracks an internal dialogue and struggle so rarely made tangible in music and much less in everyday conversation.

Their self-directed video for “I Will Definitely Feel Good” makes visual the album’s themes of “being Black, being trans, and being African on foreign land” with an artful and unsettling glimpse of what it’s like to toggle between mania and depression. Brace yourself.

WAHALA is out now on Purple Tape Pedigree.
