If you haven’t already heard, the Queen & Slim soundtrack goes off. Of course, music is always connected to film however this movie has an extra special connection to the musical world. Aside from being directed by prominent music video director Melina Matsoukas (“Formation”, “We Found Love”) the film was scored by musician Dev Hynes (Blood Orange).

The highly-anticipated movie features songs (some new) by many prominent artists. Our earbuds are blessed by Ms. Lauryn Hill, Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Vince Staples featuring 6LACK and Mereba, Tiana Major9 & EARTHGANG, Coast Contra featuring BJ The Chicago Kid, and of course, the Internet’s Syd.

On Syd’s “Getting Late” for Queen & Slim she tells the love story of the film’s two protagonists. It’s about one journey between two lovers who do not necessarily know how much time they have together. It reads as an ode to love’s progress, and how unaware we can be at the beginning of a new love until we finally realize what is happening. The song is perfect to accompany the film, it complements the tone of the feature: current, unsure, dark, but mostly loving with a bass that keeps us on our toes.
