It’s not even so much that Pose is great, as it is that the cast is great. All breakout stars in their own right, their presence on TV has ushered in a new day of visibility and work opportunities for trans actors of color. After years of otherization within the industry, fans fell in love with Dominique Jackson on 2016’s Oxygen series Strut, and even moreso as notorious house mother, Elektra Abundance.

And honey isn’t done breaking necks and barriers as she joins the cast of STARZ Neil Gaiman fantasy epic American Gods for its third season. Set to play Ms. World, an incarnation of Crispin Glover’s Mr. World, she joins fellow newcomers Marilyn Manson, Blythe Danner, Herizen Guardiola and Ashley Reyes. The series stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow and Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday.

A breathtaking glow-up if there ever was one, the Tobagonian-American spent literal decades struggling for work in New York City where she experienced homelessness and survived on sex work.
