joburg’s blk jks are back with “harare” feat. morena leraba
BLK JKS burst on to the world stage in 2009 with their critically-acclaimed debut (and only full-length album) After Robots. Now, a decade later and after some personnel changes the group comprised of Tshepang “RMBO” Ramoba (drums), Mpumi Mcata (guitar), Molefi Makananise (bass) and Tebogo Seitei are gearing up to release their sophomore album, Abantu: Before Humans on December 9th.
To herald their return, they’ve released “Harare” featuring AFROPUNK Johannesburg performer Morena Leraba on vocals. The band describes “Harare” as a “song of migration” and the new album is inspired by the resistance against corrosive sytems that threaten to dehumanize us all: “It’s hard trying to do anti-capitalist work within a patriarchal, white supremacist system of hypercapitalism that insists on stripping all the people of Ubuntu by eroding all their senses for anything other than said cannibalistic capitalism itself.”
Listen to “Harare” below and refamiliarize yourself with one of South Africa’s premier bands and true Afro-punks.
