Izaak Theo Adu is sharing the intimate parts of his life with the world. His Instagram account has become an in-depth look into some of the most important relationships in his life: his relationship to self and his relationship with his mother, Sade. 

Adu is as impactful as his mom. By sharing his life on social media, he has assumed the role of a teacher and friend to many. He uses his platform and story to normalize and celebrate his trans experience thus celebrating all trans experiences. He often credits his friends, family and specifically his mother for offering him support and courage on a journey in which all people should be supported but often times are not. He is generous, sharing his community with those people who may need one. We are all invited on this journey with him. 

Most recently, Adu has posted about the end of a 6-month journey in which he and his mother completed their fight to make sure Adu could be the man that he is. In celebration of his path thus far, here is the social journey of Izaak Theo Adu’s road to being himself.

A year and a half ago today I was given my first shot of Testosterone. Thinkin of making a YouTube channel to talk about my transition and all it’s madness and glory. Been using Instagram as a platform to share some form of positivity but feel like maybe videos would be more helpful to someone going through something similar. So I haven’t been feeling 100 percent myself recently. To put it simply my mental heath is IN THE BIN and my dysphoria is riding my A$$ 🏄🏾‍♂️ But something that always seems to bring me peace is my guitar. It was my mums, she gave it to me years ago, my most sacred possession. It’s hard to find motivation when you feel at your lowest. This process is trying, tiring, painful, emotionally exhausting, physically exhausting, uncomfortable (like I can’t sleep like a normal human being rn lol) I often ask myself “why the fuck do I have to endure this to be who I am” but at the end of the day this is the path that was laid out for me and I’ll walk it to the end. My dad always says “keep your eyes on the horizon” and that’s what I do, because through all this pain is the comfort that it’s not forever and I have the rest of my life ahead of me and I am so, SO DAMN EXCITED, I just have to remind myself to be patient sometimes as I’m sure we all do.
