stop sleeping on iamddb

I must admit — I’ve been sleeping on IAMDDB. Mostly, because I could never pronounce her damn name. I missed her set at AFROPUNK Paris this summer, so I really didn’t know what in the hell to expect. Let me be the one to tell you: this tiny Brit is everything and then some. Strutting onto Commodore Barry Park’s Gold Stage dressed in a neon-colored tassel dress, she took her sweet-ass time making her way across the stage, giving us a chance to take her in. No singing, just strolling. Graphics that read things like “STOP KILLING OUR MEN” and “NO SIR, I DON’T WANNA FUCK U” flashed across several screens. This was a woman reclaiming her time luxuriating in the attention. Partially jazz, majorly trap, IAMDDB’s music defies genre boundaries to create a sensual, hip-hop-minded whirlwind of sound. To say it was lit would be an understatement.
