Are you a South African animator or visual artist looking to up your game? Triggerfish Academy is a new online and FREE course for aspiring African animators. With the animation sector booming on the continent, Triggerfish Academy, a partnership between Triggerfish Studios and Cape Town’s Goethe Institut, aims to encourage creative youth to join the industry. Through 24 short videos, the academy explains the stages of the animation pipeline, while outlining the skills required to perform each step. The videos also call attention to the role of computers and the status of women in the industry. Along the way, students will learn how basic animations are created, and their knowledge will be tested by exercises and quizzes along the way. In the end, students are invited to submit their own work to the studio. The very best work will be selected to screen at the 2020 Cape Town International Animation Festival.

Triggerfish is one of the groundbreaking animation studios South Africa has to offer. In addition to working on its third feature film, the studio has collaborated with Netflix on the platform’s first animated original from Africa, Mama K’s Team 4.
