sign petiton to save historic new york skate spot!
In this week’s hostile architecture — the Parks Department is trying to push out New York City skateboarders from the East Village’s Tompkins Square Park. This hub is a refuge for downtown New Yorkers, especially skaters and artists. There is no Tompkins without skate, it creates the culture of the park and therefore the neighborhood.
Skateboarders have created a petition to stop the city’s invasive move. In this petition started by Adam Zhu, he explains that the city approved a plan to cover the northwest corner of Tompkins with synthetic turf. Locals felt blindsided as the decision was made without the knowledge or support of the community.
Sign this petition to protect a historic, meaningful and necessary part of New York culture.
