2019 has already proven itself an epic year for music, but there are few records we’re anticipating more than the latest from HXLT. The Chicago artist’s career has swerved between genres, but rarely has he sounded more liberated than on the first few singles from the forthcoming Bloom From Doom.
From the alt rock-driven “All My Friends” to the poppier “Ace,” now comes the massive goth jam “Anti-Special.” It’s an anthem for the outcasts and pushed aside full of moody vocals and jagged guitars. If anything, the singles HXLT has dropped in the leadup to Bloom From Doom proves that … Doom is shaping up to be that rarest of records: one where anything can happen, and probably will.
