indie/r&b duo bathe’s “sure shot” is hauntingly beautiful

Give me all your twinkly emo guitars! Bathe’s “Sure Shot” is like a perfect marriage between that melodic-yet-atmospheric R&B sound with guitar work straight out of 2003 in the best way. The duo of Dev and Corey keep their well-crafted hooks solidly in the forefront, while dense beats, smooth textures and echoing guitars shine in the spaces between. Coupled with a video that adds a level of stark realism to kids playing at violence, “Sure Shot” is haunting and ambiguous. It’s simultaneously innocent and carefree and troublingly prophetic, a glimmer of hope shining out in the absolute last frames. Brooklyn’s Bathe is definitely a new act you want to keep your eye on.
