At this point, it’s hard to imagine a time when police killings will be removed from everyday life. Until then, it seems like state-sanctioned terror will continue. Police bodycam footage released over the weekend shows proof that Willie McCoy of Vallejo, CA was shot by 6 cops and killed while sleeping in a parked car in a Taco Bell drive-thru, on the night of February 10th. Vallejo Police previously alleged that they fired into McCoy’s car because of fear for their own safety, but the footage clearly refutes this. In the video, officers can be seen calmly surveying the situation for an extended period of time before opening fire.

Trigger warning for graphic racial violence.

While police have tried to slow down the video at the moment they felt McCoy reached for the gun that was in his lap, but as The Guardian reports, the video fails to clearly display this. Additionally, witness footage captured from a distance in the parking lot also confirm that Vallejo police opened fire before giving commands.

“There’s a thousand videos on YouTube that show police misconduct, whether it’s beatings of citizens or killing them,” said McCoy’s older brother, Marc. “It gets dismissed…The Vallejo police saw the video, and they don’t think there’s anything wrong with it or that the officers did anything criminal.”

Police killed Willie McCoy 70 miles away from Sacramento where a team of police officers shot and killed 22-year-old Stephon Clark while talking on his cell phone in his backyard exactly one year ago.
