Cute story alert!!!

Back in the old days (2017), a Kickstarter for a 5-minute animation called Hair Love gained a huge amount of traction. The short focuses on the relationship between a young African-American girl Zuri, her father Stephen, and her hair. When Stephen’s wife is unavailable before a big event, Stephen must figure out how to do his daughter’s hair, which he quickly learns has a mind of its own. That warm feeling you feel right now after reading this premise is the exact reason why the film not only reached its goal but surpassed it TWICE. Its latest triumph has been its newfound support from Sony Picture Animation!

The joyous response to the film stems directly from the lack of representation for onscreen Black hair love. It also helps that it’s a positive example of a Black father and daughter relationship.

Matthew A. Cherry (who was an executive producer on Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman) is the writer/co-director of this film alongside 3D artist Jason Moreno. Hope your hungry cause in addition to the film the story will first become a book to be released May 14th, 2019.

Always happy to report yet another reminder that Black dollars sure do exist.
