lizzo drops the best kind of valentine

As if we needed to find any more adoration in our hearts for Lizzo, now she’s sending us — and by “us” I mean all of us, her entire fanbase — the best kind of valentine. “Cuz I Love You” is new music about how our feels are being recognized, a guitar-heavy tune she co-wrote/performs with the band X Ambassadors and which in another era would be called an anthemic power-ballad. 

It may not actually be about her fans, but it is about taking stock of adoration and how that may change who you turn out to be. It also sounds like Tina fronting Guns N Roses (with trap 808s tick-rocking underneath), which, in a word, is fabulous.

“I thought that I didn’t care, I thought I was love-impaired,” our queen wails. But of course she’s not, you can feel the love when Lizzo hits that high note as the music comes crashing all around her. Happy Valentine’s Day!
