afropunk mixtape #050: “this land is mine!”

February 5, 2019
76 Picks

The Big Lie at the heart of America is that it was never a white country. Colonial narratives crowd out the narratives of the Black, and Brown people who built this country and the indigenous people who were here before everybody else. For Black History Month this year we’re lifting up songs that explore questions of who really owns America’s history. From THE FEVER 333 claiming the mantle of the majority to The 1865’s rebellious anthem, we’re taking up Gary Clark Jr’s charge: “This Land Is Mine.”
