The struggle is my life. I will continue fighting for freedom until the end of my days.” — Nelson Mandela

In 2018, AFROPUNK’s mantra was #ThePeopleResist. Resistance takes on many forms for us — having a voice, visibility, self love, radical self care, gender non-conformity, activism, and intentionally not accepting the status quo. As Nelson Mandela once said, the struggle is life. The raised fist is a symbol of resistance that Black people from the Diaspora use to to express our strength, courage and fearlessness — our Black power. What better place than South Africa to celebrate and affirm resistance.
