netflix orders first african series!
Hell yeah, Netflix! The streaming giant just ordered its first-ever African original series Queen Sono! It’s a drama about a crime-fighting secret agent who cleans up the streets while dealing with her own personal drama and will star South African actress Pearl Thusi (Quantico). The beautiful natural-haired actress shared her excitement over Twitter exclaiming, “It’s going to change the game for every artist on this continent.”

“Taking talent like this and telling stories to the rest of the world puts Pearl in the same category as other strong female characters like Claire Underwood in House of Cards and Jessica Jones,” says Erik Barmack, Netflix’s VP of international originals. “Over time our roots will get deeper in Africa and South Africa, and we’re moving pretty quickly to that now, and plan to invest more in local content.”
