golden globes snub trans ‘pose’ cast

December 7, 2018

Every year there are snubs and awkward silences for some of the most talented and diverse shows on television, but notably absent from this year’s Golden Globes nominations were the phenomenal women of FX’s groundbreaking hit, Pose. With Thursday’s announcement that all of the women on the Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals-created series was left off the list, we can’t help but point out how much of a missed opportunity for this is for celebrating authentic diversity on TV. Taking cues from ballroom culture in general — and the great 1990 film Paris is Burning in particular — the series that stars Dominique Jackson and Indya Moore has opened a mainstream pathway towards visibility for all transgender performers. Shame the Golden Globe voters didn’t feel the same way.

The good news, at least, is that Pose was nominated for Best Television Series in the Drama category, as well as a nom for actor Billy Porter who plays the fantastic Pray Tell.
