"I want to make it very clear," Oprah Winfrey says while campaigning for Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. "I don't want to run, okay? I'm not trying to test any waters. Don't want to go in those waters." https://t.co/Cvt3VUt2ba pic.twitter.com/IYqEImTyxY

oprah: honor the sacrifices of your ancestors and vote
Oprah Winfrey doesn’t want to be the President of the United States. The woman just wants to run her media empire and enjoy her lush vegetable harvests from her garden that puts Whole Foods to shame. What she also wants is for Georgians to vote for the Democratic nominee for Governor Stacey Abrams, as per her moving speech made at a rally for the candidate.
“I’m here today for the men and women who were lynched,” the mogul told the crowd. “Who were discriminated against, who were humiliated, who were suppressed, who were repressed and oppressed for the right, for the equality at the poles… and I want you to know that their blood has seeped into my DNA and refuse to let their sacrifices be in vain.”
Phew. It is refreshing to be reminded that this woman is easily one of the greatest orators of our time. Her words are also a reminder of how starved we are for empathetic, eloquent and well-thought-out rhetoric: something that Abrams has brought to a Gubernatorial race inundated with Republican mud-slinging.
Winfrey did not hold back when emphasizing the legacy and importance of the right to vote for women and people of color. The mogul even quoted her mentor and mother figure, the late Maya Angelou, who told her “Baby, your crown has been paid for so put it on your head and wear it.” Ms. Angelou is still gracing us with her wisdom from beyond the grave and through Oprah no less.

If it wasn’t enough watching the mogul wax poetic about Abrams, imagine opening your door in the middle of the day to find a whole Oprah Winfrey standing there with a clipboard and smile? That was the case for a few Georgia voters were met with a surprise visit from Winfrey and her entourage.

The importance of this election has already been emphasized and re-emphasized, but if it isn’t hitting home quite yet, remember that Oprah only emerges from her California compound for presidential elections. She means business. That business is making Stacey Abrams the first Black women Governor in the United States. That isn’t the kind of history-making moment you stay home for.
Vote.
