aussie footballers don blackface as venus and serena
Something is up with Australia, booooy.
As if the Herald Sun’s decision to publish and stand-by a super-racist, Jim Crow-era-inspired cartoon of Serena Williams after the U.S. Open Finals wasn’t enough, our “friends” Down Under insist on taking it a step further, this time in Blackface. Shockingly, Penguin Football Club, of the Australian rules football league AFL, has had to apologize after three of its players dressed in full-body Blackface to impersonate Venus and Serena Williams as well as a Kenyan-born AFL player, Aliir Aliir.
Some Australians still have no clue what is considered racist. This Mad Monday “costume” is clearly racist. And I’m a person who is fed up with today’s over-the-top political correctness. pic.twitter.com/oWPR0WjeUx

Oh look: a mere week after that racist cartoon of Serena Williams, another blackface scandal hits the Australian press bc white dudes decided to “dress up” like her. Meanwhile, three Aboriginal people died in custody in the same time period. What a nation of racist slow learners.

The white players in questions have yet to be identified individually by the Huffington Post article (which originally reported the story) or by the AFL, though the league claims the trio has been reprimanded and subsequently issued apologies for the racist acts. Still, the Tasmania-based club the threesome allegedly play for, issued a shameful defense of the players, saying that their “actions were never intended to be racist in any way” and “all they meant to do was dress as one of their sporting idols.”
Because in order to celebrate Black people…you must paint your skin the color of tar and we—Blacks—should find that flattering. According to the AFL, they “will be working with the league and club to get more information and to see how we can assist in providing education to the players.” Sigh. Hurry, please.
