As we close in on the second anniversary of Prince‘s death, the icon rises yet again with the resurrection of his original 1984 version of his 90’s anthem ‘Nothing Compares To You’.

After years of covers- the most famous being Sinéad O’Connor‘s 1990 adaptation, the template to the anthem is finally being released to the masses, and with this, the true power of the artistic cycle is brought to light. Not only has Prince been scoring generations since his conception, but as his anthemic tracks shape-shift over time, he somehow manages to loop us in 34 years after the fact- and thanks to his estate, we can truly experience the continuity of his craft.

The track , being released along with never before seen rehearsal footage from 1984, preserves an artistic process on the rise, letting audiences experience a nostalgic reminder of a Prince in his ever-expanding prime. Complete with stripped-down vocals and gritty pop acoustics only the 80’s could supply, Prince outdoes himself in reverse, and we’ve never been happier to jump back in time.
