maya angelou’s prolific legacy is immortalized in this photo series
Dedicated to one of the most important writers, and probably persons, to live Maya Angelou, this photo series pays homage to and celebrates the memory, activism, and legacy of Dr. Angelou through her own words. Manifesting the iconic fashion imagery of the 1970s and 80s with looks styled by Sonia Alipio and under the creative direction of Alessandro Bonassi, the project channels some of Dr. Angelou’s powerful denouncements of discrimination and violence against Black and Latinx women and proclamations of empowerment and inherent worthiness. With some beautiful calligraphy work by Stefano Pedruzzi and models Perla Hidalgo Ventura, Carol Gugliuzzo, Alexander Asfaha, and Ibra Lenne, each photo aims to tap into Dr. Angelou’s majestic energy to spread her uplifting messages.
