After Tulsa police officer Betty Shelby killed an unarmed Terence Crutcher during a traffic stop last year, claiming she feared for her life, she was predictably acquitted of manslaughter, even though video of the incident clearly showed Crutcher had his hands up, and the only threat he posed was being Black.

But that is threat enough for most, and she was quickly brought back onto the force after the acquittal earlier this year. Not long after, Shelby briefly resigned, which was the least she could do given that, as we reported at the time, “Shelby has a history of using excessive force against citizens.”

But good things don’t last when anti-Blackness runs the game, and now officer Shelby is back again.

As KTUL reports, “Sheriff Scott Walton announced Wednesday night that Betty Shelby would be joining his office” as a reserve deputy with the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office. Though her position is unpaid, Shelby will still have access to power and authority over citizens, power and authority she has proven to wantonly abuse (at least over certain—Black—citizens).

It’s like they already know they can get away with anything, and no one will do anything about it.
