queen latifah says there’s a ‘living single’ revival on the way!
Many of us older folks who were lucky enough to enjoy the epicness of 90s/early 2000s black TV remember the time when shows about black families and black professionals were a regular part of most network’s nightly line-up. More recently, the landscape of inclusive storytelling on the small screen is basically sustained by the Shonda Rhimes microcosm, and more recently, Black-ish, Atlanta, Insecure, and Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar. And even with this high-quality entertainment, few shows have been as important to black women than Girlfriends and Living Single. Shows that presented relatable depiction of successful, interesting, self-sufficient black women as the main characters.
However, as that gap in representation remains wide open, the one and only Queen Latifah is whispering about the possibility of revisiting magazine editor Khadijah James.
Answering fan questions on Watch What Happens Live, Queen Latifah admitted that a reboot of the beloved sitcom is currently in the works! And if all goes according to plan, Kim Coles, Erika Alexander, and Kim Fields will each be reprising their roles as Synclaire, Maxine, and Régine, too! Blessed be the fruit!
