digital artist jaleel campbell pays homage to black beauty with stunning series
New York-based artist Jaleel Campbell is translating the root of black beauty to the language of the digital age with his stunning portraits. Depicting the scope of the modern brown body–ranging from black love, to the allure of Nubian Kingdom and Queendom, Campbell’s pieces help to create a new expectation for black representation.
With one of the main themes and purposes of his work being to perpetuate the growth of black empowerment in art, this innovative artist counters the eurocentric beauty standards that dominate modern media. As he plays with angles and texture, he takes digital art to a whole new level, personalizing his characters as he allows his audiences to recognize themselves in their features.
This art is universal, but only a select group is set free by its portrayals. Check out some of our favorite pieces, and learn more about Jaleel Campbell below!
