r&b singer songwriter purple ferdinand finds beauty in a breakup on her new ep ‘rain or shine’

On her latest EP, the great purveyor of heart breaking chill out music, Purple Ferdinand, finds incredible beauty in pain. Leading with the standout “Stay,” Purple Ferdinand weaves immaculate melodies out of the threads of her heartbreak. The EP is full of contradictions, lyrics push and pull at a relationship, while themes of failed communication abound. “You there with the bank stare / can’t tell if you care,” she sings on “Posing to Move.” By the closing track, “Time,” Purple Ferdinand seems to have found some closure, singing “Time is moving on” over the record’s most propulsive beat. This is the rare breakup album with no time to wallow.
