old white men need to put some respek on black women

March 28, 2017

Another day of disrespect from the white patriarchy. On this particular day, Press Secretary Sean Spicer, the literal public representative of the President and the administration, told veteran White House reporter April Ryan to “stop shaking your head.” But it’s not uncommon for reporters, particularly in the Trump Era, to do all sorts of stuff while participating in the Q&A, like checking their phones, typing, turning red, frowning, staring in cold incredulously. Which shows great restraint given how Spicer addresses the corps everyday. Over the last few (turbulent) months, Spicer has told other white male reporters to “calm down” or “relax” and he generally talks down to or shouts over most reporters, but for some reason he thought veteran April Ryan, a grown woman, was the one who needed to be directed to fix her face. Ryan is the same reporter who President Trump asked to set up a meeting with “friends of yours”, the Congressional Black Caucus, during a different press conference.

Earlier today, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly said that he didn’t hear a word Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said during her statements on the House floor because he couldn’t get past the “James Brown wig.” In the clip, O’Reilly shows Waters giving an impassioned speech about the fear the Black community has of the Trump presidency and she holds his voters accountable for ignoring those fears. O’Reilly and co-host Brian Kilmeade took this time to go back and forth on the gag until Co-host Ainsley Earhardt jumped in on Waters’ defense. Billy O later apologized for his comments calling them ”dumb“. “As I have said many times, I respect Congresswoman Maxine Waters for being sincere in her beliefs. I said that again today on Fox & Friends calling her ‘old school,” O’Reilly said. “Unfortunately, I also made a jest about her hair which was dumb. I apologize.”
