Paying dues has always been a key part of making it as an indie musician. Gaining the respect of your peers and making a name for yourself is paramount, but getting credit for your contributions can be a hard fought battle. For Zulu electro-punk singer Lasta, born Sanele Lasta Mkhize, she knows this battle all too well, lending her voice to plenty of songs while remaining relatively unknown. But now she’s making her voice her calling card and dropping her debut album soon and the lead single ‘Alive,’ is a strong beginning for the talented singer. Bubblegumclub did an outstanding profile on the Zulu artist, noting that many artists on the continent have a renewed sense of pride in their ethnic diversity, representing for their countries but also their cultures. Stream Lasta’s EPK and music and hear for yourself what exactly it means to be at the intersection of soul, electronica, and punk.
