What a weekend it’s been. The inauguration didn’t come and go quietly, with women, people of color, and other marginalized communities uniting nationwide in protest. But the effects of the transfer of power are already potent and apparent, but in the most unlikely of places. The White House website has been a place to explore the issues facing our country and a resource to those looking to gain insight, but it seems that the new administration doesn’t take kindly to information regarding civil rights, climate change and LGBTQ rights. The website has been scrubbed of any information pertaining to or in support of climate change, civil rights, and LGBTQ. What’s more concerning than the fact that they’re gone, is what will be replacing them in the near future. Instead of President Obama’s in-depth “Issues” section, which included resources on understanding poverty and violence prevention, Trump’s administration has put up some vague outlines for six different issues he’d like to engage as president, including energy and law enforcement. But the vagueness won’t last. My least optimistic self foresees a healthy dose of conservative propaganda on the way. But til then, let’s keep this momentum and fight this administration with everything in us.
