video premiere: socal jazz songstress mary akpa transports listeners to “that day on the train” in her new love ballad
Love is everywhere–in that lingering eye in the coffee shop, in passing on a crowded street, or even on the train. Mary Akpa, the Nigerian-born and SoCal raised songstress, is thinking of a special someone in her new track, “That Day on the Train,” and hasn’t stopped wondering since. At the crossroads between soul and jazz, electronic and world, Mary seems to have all the makings of the perfect ballad. The visual itself is straightforward but beautifully shot, with scenes from trains and countryside, and Mary and her lover in an innocent intimacy. Mary says, “’That Day On The Train’ is a reflection of love found in the most unexpected of places – on a subway ride in Brooklyn. It travels through the spectrum of love’s symptoms, from the euphoric to the chaotic, and arrives at the question: what is this thing they call love?” Such a worthy question to be pondered, but in the meantime enjoy the visual for this amazine love tune.
