feature: new video game ‘ananse’s well rescue’ based on ghanaian folk character combines culture, education, and entertainment for the ultimate experience
In this video-game, media-driven society, the concept of ‘education is fun’ is falling by the wayside. Mediums like the old-fashion educational video games, and sing-alongs are turning to dust, as games like ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto’ are pulling the attention of audiences growing younger and younger. Where is the game that not only excites, but fuels, and informs- all without being viewed as ‘Just another educational game’?
Well, thanks to the folks at Project Ananse, the search is as good as over. Their upcoming game ‘Ananse’s Well Rescue’ is just the combination of cultural consciousness, education, and entertainment needed to shape a well rounded gaming experience. Though perfect for all ages, the game’s intent focus on fundamental math, and incorporation of traditional African symbols, principles, and ideas. Crafted by London-based illustrator Kiaski Donkor, along with friends in both the UK and Ghana, the game teaches the youth of the community to view cultural history as entertainment, elevating the concepts to a higher, more crucial position.
Never before have I seen a game so consciously educational, and though the team is swiftly moving onto the radar, they’ve created a Kickstarter campaign to further finance the game, and share it with the world. This is a game worth playing, and definitely a cause worth supporting.Check out their Kickstarter campaign, and read more about Project Ananse’s ‘Ananse’s Well Rescue’ below.
