feature: la-based poet king recites audiences into a stupor with the release of her latest album ‘baptism’

August 18, 2016

The latest album from poet KiNG is an ineffable compilation of raw emotion. Attempting to explain the beauty and truth of this project would do it no justice, but we had to introduce you to it:

The LA-based visionary’s new album, ‘Baptism’ is just that; a baptism into the world of the poet, into the reality of the present societal climate, and its effect on the most porous individuals. This piece is not one from simply an artist, it originates from the raw, authentic emotions of a woman of color in California. In America. In the world. Unearthing the distinct journey into womanhood, and providing a window into the deprecative nature of familial relations under duress. Pairing her stark, poignant narratives with the emotionally manipulative echoes of orchestrations, the redemptive solemnity of her words are supported and translated into music- able to access a deeper outlet in her audiences.

The entire package stings. Unable to capture the true essence of her power, all I can say is see for yourself: Listen to KiNG’s stunning channel of truth and ecstasy below.
