new music: singer jalen n’gonda gives a fresh new voice to soul in his new single ‘holler (when you call my name)’
Born in small town Maryland- Jalen N’Gonda’s upbringing was one saturated with a variety of culture and tradition. His strong Zambian roots succeed in adding a layer of depth to his work, while his time studying in Liverpool (at The Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts) has influenced the trajectory of his influence and tone. N’Gonda’s rich, complex, heritage is tangible in his latest single ‘Holler (When you call my name)’- with it’s smooth combination of 60’s soul and British indie pop, listeners are offered a nurturing, multi-layered experience. A conscious, feel-good track- that’s almost a blast from the past- N’Gonda’s fresh, young interpretation of an old sound redefines the genre while reeling in new audiences.
